With the effects of COVID-19 running rampant in the world for the past months, people of every field and hobby have had their schools, clubs, and sports activities closed.

One of these sports has been men’s volleyball, who had their season cut short by the shutdown. The players and coaches had been excited and optimistic for their promising season. But during quarantine, it is difficult to stay connected with one another without being together in person.

Head coach of the men’s volleyball team Mr. Polo Lopez ‘08 has had to reset and check in with the players in order to keep in touch with the team. But still believes that “the mentality is still there” and “the team is motivated and ready for a potential season.”

As a volleyball player for all four years of his time at CB, he found a lot of similarities between his time on the team and the team of today.

“The drive and personality of the program and locker room hasn’t changed, and the players are just as inspired to work hard and as a team.”

Cade Berglund (‘21) and Keaton Shafto (‘21), seniors and veterans of the men’s volleyball team, have handled the quarantine in their own different ways. Cade has used the quarantine as a means of improving his skills and using his home as his own personal training ground, while Keaton has focused on his studies but keeping in shape in his own way. But these two teammates and friends haven’t let this quarantine stop them from staying connected. Whether calling on their phones or FaceTime, they have found a way to stay connected over this hard time.

The players and coaches on the team have been keeping together over quarantine, and have strengthened the brotherhood that the team prides itself for. The team has scheduled workouts and calls to keep in touch and to stay ready for what might happen in the coming months. All that they know is that they are a family, and their brotherhood is their most important trait.
