Many of us here at CB came from private school where our foot fashion was limited. Now, our socks can be used as an accurate representation of our personalities. They are the new go-to gift for a last minute present and also the latest fashion. The Talon interviewed three seniors who have been setting trends in the sock world since freshmen year.

Name: Mary Claire Hancock (’17)

What is your inspiration?

I don’t know if I have an inspiration; I think I just like weird socks. My mom got a bunch for me, and the rest is history.

Favorite pair of socks?

Recently, I got a pair of socks with koi fish on them, and they’re so snuggly and soft.

When did you first start wearing fun socks?

I was only allowed to wear white socks in elementary and middle school, so when I got to high school, my foot fashion really blossomed.

Where do you get most of your socks?

I get them from random book stores in small towns or just the grocery store. There are weird socks everywhere; you just gotta look hard enough.

Name: Laura Gorry (’17)

What is your inspiration?

I don’t like sweaty feet. And I have to keep it fun!

Favorite pair of socks?

My favorite pair of socks are probably my crab socks or sparkly “poodle” socks for dance.

How many pairs of socks do you have?

I have three drawers full of socks. I also take some of my brother’s socks because he’s in college now.

When did you first start wearing fun socks?

It all started with the infamous Connor Gorry. He bought me my first pair for Christmas one year, and the rest is history.

Where do you get most of your socks?

Definitely the Target in Davis is my go-to place to get socks. Also, whenever my parents travel to new places, they’ll bring me back more socks.

Name: Grace Leu (’17)

What is your inspiration?

My older sister used to always wear crazy socks when she went to CB, and I always thought she looked so cool. It definitely “rocked my socks off!”

Favorite pair of socks?

My favorite pair of socks would probably be my Gustav Klimt “The Kiss” socks because Gustav Klimt is my favorite artist, and it makes me happy that I can represent his artistry just by wearing some comfortable socks.

How many pairs of socks do you have?

I have too many to count. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t open my sock drawer because there are too many in there. I now have designated two separate drawers for socks. It’s a commitment.

When did you first start wearing fun socks?

I started wearing crazy socks probably freshman year. I went to a private elementary school where our socks had to fit the dress code, so I had a lot of pent-up sock emotion by the time high school came around, especially since I’d been watching my sister wear fun socks for years while I still had to wear plain old white socks.

Where do you get most of your socks?

I get my socks at Sock City, souvenir shops when I go on vacation, and the Birkenstock store, but most of my favorite socks are from the dollar section at Target!

These three seniors have shared their insights about inspiration behind their sock magic. Hopefully, we have others following in their footsteps, ready to “rock our socks off”!
