Softball Sisters

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play a varsity sport with your sibling? The Gruber sisters give you an inside look at softball sisterhood. 

Senior co-captain Kirsten Gruber (’16) has been playing varsity softball since her sophomore year at Christian Brothers.

“I love the bonds I have made with my teammates and that they become more than just friends, maybe even sisters” said Kirsten when asked about her favorite part of playing softball at CB. This season will be her last and possibly the most sentimental because her freshman sister Hannah Gruber (’19) will be joining the varsity team.

This will be Hannah’s first season as a Falcon and it couldn’t be better timing.

“I love being around all of my friends and having something to do outside. And also hit dingers,” Hannah said with a laugh.

Both sisters have been playing softball since the early age of four.

“My sister always played and I wanted to do what she did,” Hannah said.

They have both spent time playing on traveling teams, all-star teams, playing fall ball for CB and rec softball in Elk Grove. Despite all of their experience in the sport, they have very rarely played on the same teams due to their age.

“Our first experience playing in a CB softball program was fall ball last year,” Hannah said.

Each sister has had a large amount of success in their sport but neither of them plan to continue playing after high school.

Kirsten has ambitious goals for this season.

“I want to improve my hitting, be a great captain and bring the team closer together this season,” she says.

Hannah looks forward to getting to play with her sister again this season.

“I’m really excited to play on the same team as my sister for her last season at CB” Hannah said with a grin.
