CB Wrestling’s Dynamic Duo

An inside look at CB’s top senior wrestlers.

When you usually think of winter sports, the first thing that comes to mind is basketball, But what about Wrestling. Wrestling is a different kind of sport — everything is on you, unlike other sports like basketball and football where you work together.

This year Christian Brothers has two wrestlers who have enormous heart and dedication they are Seniors Jaret Fiffick, and Zach Steving.

“It’s a one on one sport, and it takes away the ability for me to make excuses when I fail”, wrestler Jaret Fiffick (’16) says. “It teaches me a lot of lessons about life even though it’s just a sport.”

“It’s a demanding sport and takes a lot of dedication and heart,” Zach Steving (’16) added.

Jaret started wrestling his freshman year because it was something he was interested in after watching Olympic wrestling.

“I fell in love with the sport and I’ve been doing it ever since,” he said.

His season is going great so far. As a heavyweight, his record is 12-3 and he is seeded second in the league. Saturday February 13th he hopes to win the league tournament..

Zach has also been wrestling all four years of high school and Jaret describes him as, the “best pound for pound wrestler on the team”.

Zach wasn’t born into wrestling — wrestling was born into him, as he inherited his skills from his grandpa and his dad. Zach is having a great season as he also tries to take first in league this Saturday.

With not much time left in the season these wrestlers hope to cherish each match they have left and come out a winner. So be sure to support them if you see them in the hallways and wish them good luck.
