CB Staff and Students find  some great places around Sacramento to dine for an affordable amount of money.

Being high school students, our sources of income are quite slim. Some Christian Brothers students have jobs, but for most part, the primary source of income is our parents. Trying to find places for quality food and a cheap bill can be hard to find.

The Talon caught up with some Falcons to find out where the hot spots are to eat. Whether it is Downtown, Midtown, or right in East Sacramento, there are many places that CB staff and students love eating.

Conner Swan (’15) enjoys going to Jensai Sushi downtown on 16th street. In fact, he goes here at least once a week with his family.

“I go there because all of the servers and the chefs know us and we can have nice conversations,” Swan says.

However, Conner and his family are not the only people who have had the pleasure of eating at this new sushi bar,.

“I have gone there with friends and no one has given a bad review yet,” Conner says. “Everyone has liked it so far.”

Possibly Conner’s favorite part about going to eat at Jensai is the happy hour special from 2:30-7 pm on rolls and selected appetizers, making the bill cheap for students.

Another CB student, Jill Thomas (’15), informs Talon of her favorite places that fulfill her taste for Mexican food.

“My favorite places to go are the Midtown Taqueria in East Sacramento on J street and Oscar’s in Land Park on Freeport Blvd.”

Jill explains that both of her favorite places are inexpensive and easy to get to.

“I go to Oscar’s with friends because it is so close to CB and it is a lot of food for a relatively cheap amount,” she says. “Plus, it is always fast, especially when I have limited time to eat.”

CB teacher Mr. Bobby Fresques has more of a taste for the midtown restaurants.

“I like going to Paesanos with my family,” he shares. “It is affordable, about ten dollars for a whole dish and I think it is definitely one of the best Italian food restaurants in the Sacramento area.”

If you ever find yourself at Paesanos and need help with what to order, Mr. Fresques recommends the Spicy Creole.

“It is a pasta with meats such as sausage and even contains shrimp,” he says excitedly.

For many staff and students families may eat at home to save money or even because a family member may love cooking.

Mrs. Diane Heine’s husband loves to cook for them. However, this does not stop her from enjoying an occasional night on the town with some friends.

“I love going downtown to Tres Hermanas with my friends,” Mrs. Heine says. “I definitely recommend students trying it out,”

Among our CB students and staff, there are many people on campus that can recommend some great places around Sacramento to try out. Whether you are in the mood for Japanese, Italian, or even Mexican, there are plenty of restaurants in different areas that our CB community suggests.
