The brave, the giving, the Wellspring members.

Wellspring members donate their Friday mornings and arrive at school before the gates are even unlocked to get into CB. They spend their morning cooking scrambled eggs, pancakes, as well as making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

The Wellspring moderator, Mr. Danny Delgado ’79, explained how the Wellspring club came to be.

“Wellspring club began about 30 years ago when Dr. Peterson wanted to meet the needs and requests of the people who were running Wellspring, a Women and Children’s Center located in Oak Park.”

Mr. Delgado goes on to explain that “Dr. Peterson started pulling students in to help cook breakfast and to meet the requests of the two Sisters who started the Wellspring.”

The Talon made the journey to Wellspring at 6 AM this past Friday and found out more what this club is all about.

This year there were quite a few CB students who took interest in the Wellspring Club. In fact, Co-President Victoria Moore (’15) informed Talon that there were 138 people who signed up this year.

“We have so many members that we have to have the Freshman and Sophomore class members switch off attendance each week so that people are not just sitting around without a job,” she says.

Wellspring seems to have really taken off this year, and with so many members it even allows some to skip a week and get a little more sleep.

Getting up at 6 am may stop many students from wanting to join Wellspring, but Co-President Anna Dahl (’15) gave some insight into the advantages to this early morning start.

“You have about an hour to do homework in between Wellspring ending and school starting, so you can go to bed Thursday night knowing you will have some time to complete assignments,” she says. “Plus, if you are fortunate enough to have your license or know a member who has their license you can go get breakfast on the nice Friday morning.”

However, if Anna’s amazing suggestions do not tempt you to join the club, there are still other ways you can help Wellspring.

“We can always use money for eggs and loaves of bread” says Victoria.

Anna goes on to add “or even syrup for the pancakes or salsa for the eggs because we do not always have some to give to them.”

Whether you are an active member of the Wellspring club or a good Lasallian student, there is something everyone can do to help feed the Wellspring Women and Children’s Center.
