Christian Brothers Pants Problems

First too tight, then too loose. Will we ever find what’s just right for CB’s dress code ?

Christian Brothers’ campus is home to a new and exciting trend known as harem pants. The popularity of these pants had skyrocketed in the short time that they were allowed to be worn on campus. But there in fact lies the problem — why were they banned in the first place?

Before we learn why they were banned, it’s important to know the facts first: just what are harem pants and where did they come from?

CB student and supporter of the newly outlawed pants Sydney Rodriguez (’15) shares her opinion on the style.

“Harem pants are a classy new style of pants from the Middle East that are gathered at both the waist and ankle with the legs ballooning,” explains the senior. “I understand that it is hard for the deans to discern harem pants from joggers and sweats– but they are in fact real pants.”

So, if these pants are real and fashion forward, why wouldn’t the deans want students to wear them? Could it be that they resemble something that they are not, such as yoga pants or tights? Or could it simply be that they are just not what CB wants as part of dress code.

Lizzy Havey (’15) loves the “gypsy” style pants, but hates that they’re banned.

“I understand the idea of harem pants being banned becasue of the elastic band, but in my opinion these pants look very professional so I do not see why they are not allowed.”

As the new trend continued to gain popularity among students, the administration felt the fashion movement was gaining  momentum too quick and decided to look into the mystery that was Harem pants.

When it comes to heart and soul of CB dress code, dean of students Mr. Dave Levasseur is always on top of the latest styles and trends.

When asked about the reputation of the controversial harem pants, the dean was quick to respond.

“The administration thought that the pants were too casual for a school setting and resembled a pajama like appearance,” he says.

While this may not be the verdict that most CB students wanted to hear, it was only a matter of time before the controversy was put to rest.

Harem pants were a a seemingly quick fashion phase in the Christian Brothers community compared to some of the great past trends such as Flappy Bird or pumpkin spiced lattes. But if history chooses to repeat itself, when one trend ends you can bet another is right around the corner.
