Holy Cup is one of the most highly anticipated games of the soccer season and this year our team did not disappoint.
Last Friday afternoon, our men’s soccer team took on one of the biggest rivals, and nationally ranked competitors in the nation in Jesuit.
It was an intense match, with tempers flaring, cards thrown, and only two goals scored. Jesuit struck first with the opening goal, putting them ahead right as the halftime whistle blew.
But Falcon players never hung their heads and never gave up. Our boys continuously fought hard despite numerous injuries and cards.
As the second half started, there was a new determination that walked onto the field with the players. With a bigger crowd than they have seen all season, our soccer team had something to prove. With about five minutes remaining, striker Kristian Heptner (’15) banged a beautiful goal into the back of the net.
“I can’t even put it into words,” Kristian explains. “The crowd made the game that much better because you have more people cheering for you, making you want to play better, fight harder, and with that support I think our team can do many things going into any game.”
Coach Mr. Jacob Hunley ’96 went on to explain his feelings on how his team matched up to Jesuit.
“[I feel] they matched up very well. It was a very physical game,” Coach Hunley explains. “Both teams wanted to win, and I was proud of how our boys responded to the atmosphere and environment and kept the intensity up throughout the match.”
Our men’s soccer team did a fantastic job of representing our school, and made Christian Brothers proud by tying the previously ranked #1 team in the nation.
