With his tenure of over 30 years as a teacher at Christian Brothers, Mr. McGovern has collected a plethora of mementos to commemorate his time with CB’s students and faculty.

Being an art teacher, Mr. Kevin McGovern ’74 has many interesting pieces of art lining the walls of his classroom. These pieces are what make his classroom truly unique and serve as a reminder of the talents of Brothers’ students past and present.

This first piece is done by a current Junior at CB, Karla Bernardo (’14) and is one that Mr. McGovern is extremely proud of. One of CB’s most promising art students has managed to capture a raging drink fad with impressive realism in this painting, and no doubt gives students and teachers alike watering mouths.

At first glance, this next work looks as though it is a picture of CB’s art maestro. However, it is merely a portrait painting done by one of the most talented students to ever pass through CB’s art department: Bryan Caselli ’07. Caselli has gone on to find extreme success in college at the California Institute of the Arts — which is commonly refered to as the Harvard of art schools — and in his current work with such shows as Cartoon Network’s “Regular Show” and “Robot Chicken”.

McGovern’s next memento is an award winning throwback from Joey Del Porto ’04.This portraiture of a mystery man has struck McGovern well enough to hold its place,  livening up the walls of Room 104 for over 10 years.

This piece by Carly Tsang (’13) is still used by McGovern to teach students painting styles and how to depict the human physiology in art. Current art students could learn a lot from Carly’s work.

This photo, which currently hangs in central position on McGovern’s wall, commemorates a moment in his long-lasting friendship between Mr. Chuck Zanetti and Mr. McGovern. In the picture, McGovern and Zanetti are happily displaying the sign of their new gang, The Blue Shirt Red Tie Guys.

If you ever find time or the sudden urge to chat with Mr. McGovern, stop on by Room 104 and enjoy the unique and entertaining art and images which line his walls.
