With Lent well underway, the Talon takes a look at what some of the members of the CB community are abstaining from.

Student Pick: Junior Megan Perry (’14) is giving up procrastination, in order to be “better prepared for life and to become a more effective human being.”

With a full course load in addition to regular volunteering, she knows how hectic life can get.  For those struggling with their Lenten commitments, Megan advises staying calm and focused.

“Just take things day by day,” the junior says. “And, make sure you don’t sweat the small stuff because in the grand scheme of things, [messing up during Lent] isn’t that important.”

Teacher Pick: For this year’s Lenten season Mr. Michael Hood is trying to curb his french fries and chips habit.

“They aren’t healthy, and I am doing my best to stop eating them, but it’s also a betterment of myself thing,” he says.  “I have already violated my pledge though, so my advice is to start anew if that happens.  Don’t give up.”

Talon Pick: Realizing that going cold turkey isn’t always feasible, this year Talon Sports Editor Nicole Skow (’13) is just trying to drink less soda.  For the athletic senior, moderation is key when it comes to her Lenten sacrifice.

“I have typically always failed, so this year it’s just about cutting back,” she says. “Maybe just one or two sodas a week is the goal, along with just trying to be healthier.”
