The idea of starting a Photography Club was presented last year to Mr. Brendan Hogan ’95 by Emma Bradford (’14) and Michael Enos (’13), and since then the club has expanded.
The goal of the Photography Club is to get anyone with an interest in photography to take the initiative to join and get better at the craft. Cameras are not a necessity to join the club.
“[Smartphone technology] has basically made it so that everyone has a fairly decent digital camera on themselves at all times,” Mr. Hogan said.
Although the club is not completely about taking better pictures with smart phones, they are accepted as a replacement for a camera.
However, Mr. Hogan wants to “move the game up” from smart phones, and acquire more cameras to experiment with taking professional grade photos. He also would like to have Studio Monet, a local photography studio, come to the school and demonstrate how to set up portraits. The KBFT program director also plans to research online books to help assist with ideal backgrounds, scenery, and lighting.
Mr. Hogan enjoys the idea of the Photography Club because many of the Christian Brothers’ media stations such as KBFT, the Talon, and Crest Yearbook can benefit from improved photography.
The club is looking for motivated students who have cameras they are willing to bring and help take photos useable by the school. Whether a person has little or no experience in photography, all are welcome in the club.
