A tradition of strong leadership continues for the CB Cross Country team.
The CB Cross Country team is one of those sports that doesn’t get much attention, yet they produce the most consistent results.
Traditionally, the team has sent numerous runners to state meets and this year will be no different. Korbi Thalhammer (’13) says he is “confident that we will qualify this year.”
Korbi is a part of the select group of seniors that have been a part of the team since freshman year and he has naturally blossomed into the role of being leader.
“He’s a great leader by the sense that he does things by example,” says assistant coach, Mr. Dave Levasseur.
Korbi “doesn’t just talk the talk” the Dean of Students says — he also believes that Korbi “sets a good example” for the hordes of new freshman that joined the program this year.
Getting up early in the morning to run isn’t the easiest thing to do, especially when one is sore from the previous day’s work out. But camaraderie is what fuels many of the Falcon runners, including this example-setting senior.

“Having other people who like to do the same thing makes [running] that much easier,” Korbi says. “A sense of community is so pervasive to the program provides that daily motivation to do something that might not be considered fun.”
A common theme amongst the cross country team is the feeling of being a part of something bigger than just a team.
“[Cross country is] basically like a family for me,” Jacquelyn Kasbergen (’13) says. “We all are really close together and we all support each other.”
“The most rewarding part is being able to be on Varsity and be part of the super close knit family kind of thing.”
For Korbi, though, the most rewarding part of running cross country has been carrying on a strong tradition of leadership.
“Last we had a group of seniors that were very naturally talented at leading. I guess following in their footsteps has been an honor and a privilege.”
