“Take Your Seat” and check out the newest addition that will be coming soon to the CB campus.
Students and teachers around campus may have noticed the construction going on in the L1 hallway. The Little Theater and Library are being torn down to make way for new classrooms, while a brand new, state-of-the-art theater is literally being built in our own backyard.
Over 600 students participate in Performing and Visual Arts at Christian Brothers, leaving the need for a modern theater facility.
The 16,500 square-foot on-campus theater will be built between the SMAT Wing and the baseball field, taking over Brother Edward Hall and the Portables. This theater will have 350 seats, two classrooms, a large stage, and other accommodations needed by our arts students.
Christian Brothers High School President Mr. Lorcan Barnes told the Talon that this move will greatly enhance the CB Arts program.
“The arts are a vital part of the high school experience for more than half our students” he said. “My hope is that this facility helps them to develop and showcase their talents.”
Over the past couple of years, parents, alumni, and faculty members have been donating money to the “Take Your Seat” sponsorship program. This campaign allows donors to be apart of the theater with a $2,500, $5,000, or $10,000 gift.
“Supporting the programs keeps them vital and alive — support that includes volunteer time and or money is always appreciated,” Directory of Facilities Mr. Steve Barsanti ’78 told the Talon. “The theater is a large financial undertaking, but the school President and the Capital Campaign have been successful in reaching the goals to pay for such a big project.”
Construction to build the theater is set to start Spring 2013 and with completion of the facility aimed for Spring 2014.
