A young Falcon takes flight on the volleyball court.

Her name is Elizabeth Robinson (’16).

She is six feet four inches tall. She is the middle blocker for the Christian Brothers Varsity volleyball team.

She is only a freshman.

Every time Elizabeth plays in a CB volleyball game, she understands that she is most likely the youngest girl on the court. Yet that adversity doesn’t faze her.

“[Volleyball] is a personal, mental sport, so you have to keep calm and keep going,” she says.

Wise words coming from a student who hasn’t even completed her first month of high school and has only played in a few games at the Varsity level. Of course, it helps to be on a team with lots of talent and high expectations this year.

“I’m with a great group of people and I enjoy it,” Elizabeth says. “They are very welcoming.”

Elizabeth is one the most mild-mannered, humble freshman you will meet, but if you ask her if she is surprised to be on varsity this year, she will display the confidence it took to jump two levels on one of the best high school volleyball teams in Northern California.

“It had been my goal to make varsity,” the middle blocker said. “So I just worked my butt off to make it.”

Elizabeth started playing volleyball in sixth grade when her mom started a team through her middle school in Elk Grove. Since then, through the help of both parents, she has found a love for the game.

“[My mother] definitely got me started, but my dad has really made me think about my future.”

That future is certainly bright for young Elizabeth. Assuming she remains on varsity for the next four years, it is a near guarantee the  college recruiters will be lined up to see what this young star has to offer. In particular, No. 16 has aspirations of playing for the University of Texas because of their “amazing volleyball program”.

The future of the Christian Brothers volleyball program surely has a player to be reckoned with and her name is Elizabeth Robinson.  Come support Elizabeth and the entire CB volleyball team on Tuesday, September 11th when they travel across town to take on St. Francis High School in the annual Holy Court game.
