Christian Brothers High School has an amazing art program. For a lot of CB students, art is more than a pastime — it’s a way for people to express themselves creatively. However, this creativity has to start somewhere. Let’s take a deeper look into where some CB art students get their inspiration.
Christina Fernandez (‘21) is in the Advanced Painting class at CB. She finds her painting ideas within her imagination. Christina is inspired by things she enjoys, and she also finds inspiration by looking at other artists’ style and using them in her own way. Christina describes her own style of painting as simple, minimalist, and colorful.
“My favorite medium to use is acrylic because it’s very versatile,” she says. “Also, when I make mistakes, it’s easy to add layers or use paint to clean up my artwork.
Victoria Zeigler (‘21), who is also in the Advanced Painting class, finds her inspiration by thinking about what she connects to and enjoys doing. Similar to Christina, she looks at images online or things in her environment, and she makes it her own. Victoria’s favorite medium is acrylic paint because she says its easier to blend the colors together and she likes the texture of the paint.
“I would describe my style of art as a mixture of expressionism and a bit of contemporary art,” Victoria says.
Cassie Hanson (‘21) is in the Art Survey class. Her main inspiration for her artwork is nature, usually flowers and different animals. Cassie’s grandfather is a big inspiration for her artwork as well because he was an artist and greatly appreciated animals. Her grandfather also enjoyed woodcarving and drawing people.
“I had never really understood why he was so passionate about art until I got more interested, but now I understand because it’s amazing to start off with something blank and to slowly watch it come to life,” Cassie says.
Cassie enjoys drawing birds because they remind her of her grandfather since he learned how to identify birds by their call when he became blind.
It is interesting to see everyone’s unique style of art and know more about the meaning behind it. Art is an important outlet, and it is something anyone can do if they just find the inspiration.
