I’m sure a lot of us at Christian Brothers miss regular school, but there are some advantages that come with online learning. One of them is that we get to spend more time with family.

During online learning, my freshman sister, Aryah Hubbard (’24), and I have been spending more time together than we would on a regular school day. At break we don’t hang out together, but if we have the same lunch time, we usually eat lunch and watch a show together. We also go to each other’s rooms throughout the day if we need something or forget the schedule. It’s nice to be able to ask each other for help if we need it.

Camille Nye (‘21) has been spending more time with her freshman brother Conner Nye (‘24) since they have been doing school online.

“We hangout after school sometimes, which we never really did before,” Camille says. “I definitely think we spend more time with each other since we’re at home together.” Conner agrees that they spend more time together now than they would on a normal school day on campus. They say it’s been nice because they can talk about school more since they are having similar school experiences.

Kalina Mullinax (‘21) and her brother Nehemiah Mullinax (‘23) are having a different experience. Their online schedules don’t match, so they haven’t been spending a lot of time around each other during school. I asked Kalina if they‘re spending more time together during online learning, and she said, “no, about the same because we both always have different schedules. Although we do spend more time together on weekends than we used to before.” Online learning has pushed them to hang out more during the weekends since they don’t talk as much during the school week.

Although we want life to get back to normal, we should take advantage of this extra time at home and enjoy being with our families. Online learning is a great opportunity to spend more time with siblings and our family.
