We all come to school, go to class, and go home. But what about the students who are more involved in the CB school community? Bella Barbosa (‘21) is an asset with her involvement with many CB programs. You may have heard her strumming her guitar on Open Mic Night — eight shows to be exact — or seen her anchoring on KBFT.

Bella is the current ASB Secretary and future ASB president, one of the main producers for KBFT, co-President of the We Dine Together club, and takes part in Wellspring and Moot Court. Her responsibilities as secretary include typing the minutes for Student Council meetings, and going to weekly ASB lunch meetings in which she plans “all the events that student council works on together,” she says.

Bella also plays a big role in KBFT, where as a producer “[she] writes the scripts and manages the packages that go on each day,” while also “planning who will have what job and occasionally taking on jobs [herself] like switcher and anchor.”

“I heard about KBFT through my older brother who went to CB and it was actually one of the main reasons I wanted to come to here,” Bella says.

Her love for student leadership began long before high school, tracing back to fourth grade and leading up to her recent win as ASB president. “Being president is Bella’s life dream,” says John Bonini (‘21). “What will make Bella the best president is her commitment to the school. She isn’t out to be president for the extra bonus on her college resumé — she’s out to be president to make the school better.”

With her most recent win, Bella hopes to increase school spirit and inclusivity. In recent years, some students haven’t felt included and are lacking a strong sense of spirit that inspires them to join in on spirit days or games. Bella wants to make school spirit alive. She says her goal is “making people want to come to school”.

Bella clearly has a love for service and isn’t afraid of hard work. She joined Wellspring sophomore year because she “heard about it from a friend and started going…and then this year I took on more responsibility by delivering the food.”

“I work hard on the things I’m involved in and I’m passionate about the things I do,” which she says helps her get past the difficulties of being a very active student.

“I’m still trying to manage [all my responsibilities] myself, and though I get very little sleep, I think it’s worth it.”

Co-Student Council Moderator Ms. Stephanie Roybal says Bella is vital in keeping ASB “on task and organized by keeping dates and information.”

“I appreciate that Bella is a true Lasallian student. She is a hard worker, she is caring, and she knows how to take things with stride,” which Ms. Roybal added is essential in being a good leader.

If you feel overwhelmed or you find yourself spread too thin, Bella recommends making time for the things most important to you.

“It’s really about prioritizing and planning everything out.”
