When you think of cats, what words first come to mind? Are you one of those people who thinks felines are adorable, playful, and cuddly? Or do you lean more towards the adjectives like sneaky, mischievous, and moody? If you’ve ever had a cat, you can probably agree that a cat can be all these things and more — that’s what makes them such unique pets. The Talon sat down with cat lovers Lizzie Blake (’20), Lucy Carvalho (’20), and Lily Schubert (’20) to get their take on why they love cats.
With three cats of her own, Lily is one of many cat lovers at CB.
“They are so easy to maintain and give constant love and support. They do not need to go on walks and they don’t bark,” she says. “They’re simply living angels.”
The process of adopting the perfect cat can be hard, but for Lily, the opportunity was simply handed to her.
“We had to put my dog Mighty down one day, which was really sad. But the next day, this adorable kitten appeared in a tree in Land Park where we would take my dog mighty to play everyday. The cat fell in love with me so we adopted it and named it Faith.”
Some cats have sweet and loving nature that makes them the perfect pets for some owners. These qualities are some of the reasons why Lizzie chose to have cats as pets.
“ [Cats] are really sweet and really cute and not as annoying as some other animals.” she states. “They kind of keep to themselves, they don’t have to be let outside unless they want to be, it’s not hard to clean them, you can buy them cute collars, and they’re just fun and will chill with you.”
After hearing one of Lizzie’s childhood memories with her cat Taz, you could say that cats are also pretty adaptable.
“When I was little, I had this kitten who was a cute little orange tabby and we got him around Christmas time. I had this baby carriage thing and he would just ride around in it and it was really cute.”
Lucy is involved in the organization called Lap Cats, which allows her to help rescued cats by giving them a home until they are adopted by another owner. I was able to adopt my two cats from Lucy this summer and haven’t regretted the decision once!
Lucy states that she really likes cats because they “just don’t care and are adorable and sassy.”
Along with their loving and playful personalities that can entertain for hours, cats can also be comforting and welcoming pats to have when settling down after a long day.
“Ever since I’ve gotten my cat I have been more responsible and loving. My cat forces me to sit down and lay with her, which is a nice reminder to slow down every one in a while.”
