Christian Brothers High School is a welcoming school to all students who come here. Transferring schools isn’t easy, but an opening and warm community can make fitting in a breeze.
Sophomore Maddy Hesse (‘21) felt embraced when she transferred to CB her sophomore year.
“I feel I have very personal relationships with most of my teachers at CB,” she says. “I’ve felt very welcomed by the community and I feel exceptionally comfortable at CB.”
Wherever she attended high school, Maddy wanted to make sure she loved where she was. Maddy never felt the love at her old school that the CB community brings. Once she transferred, she knew it was the best decision she made for her high school career.
“CB’s community is more welcoming than SF’s. The teachers are nicer. The students are way more real. I feel generally loved and welcomed at CB, which I never felt at SF,” she says.
Maddy transferred in the fall of 2018. Playing on the women’s varsity volleyball team, she not only made new friends, but a family. Maddy still talks to her teammates when she sees them in the halls around school.
“I’ve never been a part of a team that was practically family,” she says. “Playing besides people you love is so much easier than beside people you hate.”
Although transferring to CB was the best thing for Maddy, she still faced obstacles throughout the process. Maddy reminded herself to focus on the positive support she was getting rather than the negative.
“In the beginning, it was really hard for me. I didn’t make friends super quickly, I wasn’t acting like myself I was more reserved and quiet. And then I just relaxed and got comfortable and made friends and got into a rhythm,” the sophomore says. “Some of my friends were really supportive and others criticized me. All of my friends at CB were so excited and supportive of my choice and helped me through it.”
When Chace Gallup (‘19) transferred to Christian Brothers his freshman year, he knew it was a valuable decision. Chace wanted an environment that would push him to become a better student and person to the community.
“I thought long term coming here would be more beneficial to my education,” he said.
“The transition was smooth — CB is where I will graduate. I came here to get into college and it looks like I’ll get into college and move on.”
Chace knew CB was the right fit for him because of the strong community at CB. Chace’s favorite part about CB are his teachers he’s had in past and current classes.
“I like the size of CB — the teachers are far more engaging at CB. Classes like religion, psychology, and personal finance allow for more student interactions with topics that are college level that is not seen at most schools.”
Chace fell in love with CB right when he arrived. He found new opportunities and friends, which made the transition to CB easier.
“The teachers at CB are really top of the line — they are engaging and purposeful. The CB community has embraced me,” the senior says. “I have good rapport with my teachers and have been very active in sports during my time here at CB.”
Christian Brothers High school is a prestigious high school. Everyone here is welcomed with open arms. Whether you are a freshman starting high school or a transfer student, your time here at CB is unforgettable.
