Deep within the heartof CB culture, a Phoenix has risen from the ashes and earned gold: Moot Court. Unknown by many, this team of lawyers-to-be beat the odds came out with a win. Lead by their fearless leader, Mr. Vince Leporini, a team of underdog Falcons took the courtroom by storm.

The team had been on hiatus for 10 years until the 2013-2014 school year when Mr. Leporini and Mr. Michael Hood decided to resurrect the dormant team. They convinced a handful of juniors to join and the rest is history. The team came in first last year and third in this years competition, which occurred in early March.

The devoted students pour their hearts and souls into the activity. Victoria Linares (’15), up and coming lawyer and “team mom”, gave insight about the rigorous workload,

“The season starts in mid-January and we meet Thursday’s during Falcon Flex and every weekend leading up to our competition,” she said with pride,”We were the underdogs last year, no one expected us to come in first place. The whole team was shocked.”

Despite the intense time commitment and lack of school wide recognition, the team believes that what they have gotten out of it, outweigh all of the negatives.

Daniel Kever (’15), more commonly known as Chief Keve, reveals what he took from Moot Court,

“It was a fun experience where you gain many public speaking skills.” he says, “It also instills self confidence.”

If you are nervous about joining a team with such an intimidating reputation, Victoria reassured incoming members of the team’s warm environment.

“Mr. Leporini and the attorney coach that every team is guaranteed do a great job of preparing everyone,” she says.

So if you see a Moot court member in the hallway give them a high five for making the Christian Brothers community proud. If arguing is your game, get in touch with Mr.Leporini, and possibly discover the career of your dreams.
