A chance to truly express one’s self — CB one acts.
The theatre program at Christian Brothers offers students two prime opportunities to showcase their talents with the fall play and spring musical.
However, this is not enough for some of the more eager thespians on campus. To satiate their need for performance, the CB has a festival of one act plays every winter.
“[The one acts] are collaborative,” CB theater manager Ms. Heather Christianson tells the Talon. “These students one acts are entirely written and directed by students who know what they want.”
Writing and directing an original one act may seem like a daunting task, but fear not — no Falcon is on their own. Ms.Christanson is always willing and eager to help aspiring directors.
“They come to me with ideas and I help them find out how to make those ideas workable,” she says.
This year, the students involved in one acts are fortunate enough to have access to the new theatre as well as the recently organized prop room, located on the top floor of the theater.
“They’ll be using lighting, sound effects, basic scenery, and props” Prop Master Ms. Christanson explains.
One of the one acts students will have the opportunity to enjoy this coming weekend is Portlandia on Tour, written and directed by Garrick Sigl (’15).
“It is an adaptation of a TV show, Portlandia,” Garrick explains. “A group of citizens are touring across the country to get the power back in Portland.”
This one act serves as more than another chance for fame for renowned CB performer Garrick.
“I love theatre and acting and was wanting to try my hand at directing again” Shakespearean Sigil admits.
So if you are interested in seeing the creative genius of the CB community, be sure to stop by the theater this weekend. Perhaps you will be inspired to express your own creative genius next year.
