No pain, no gainz: a lifestyle like no other.
I’ve spent four years walking the halls of CB, my scrawny self, working out only when forced to for baseball, never seeing the other side of what is known as the “gainz” phenomenon, which is the process of putting on muscle mass.
However, there are those who do see the benefits of “getting big”. They see the light at the end of gainz tunnel and they are on the fast track to being big; that train, the gainz train, is stopping for no one anytime soon.
Colton Wackman (’15), avid weight lifter and protein taker says working out “is a great stress reliever” and that “there’s nothing better then the feeling I get after a good workout.”
Colton also uses working out to help him with the sport of baseball, where he plays catcher, something he has excelled at over his four years here at CB.
“Working out makes me stronger so that when I’m catching, I fatigue slower and I can hit the ball farther and throw the ball harder,” Colton explains with excitement.
Fitness guru and Christian Brothers physical education teacher Mr. Bobby Fresques adds his own opinion on working out, highlighting that it is for “the health of the athlete and injury prevention”
A way many enhance the working out process is by drinking protein shakes. Protein is a way of life for many weight lifters, including Colton.
“My day to day process revolves around eating and drinking copious amount of protein,” Colton explains to the Talon with a wide smile “Protein helps rebuild the muscle fibers and repair the worked out muscles so I can gain strength and size.”
Mr. Fresques also sees the importance in taking substances such as protein and legal creatine. However, he confidently instills in this Talon reporter that “there is nothing better then an old fashioned workout.”
For me, my workouts are playing pick-up basketball and my protein comes from weekly trips to In-n-Out burger. For many, though this is not the case, as working out and work-out enhancing products such as protein is a lifestyle.
I think Colton sums it up best when he says with a grin
“Protein is hands down the greatest man made substance in the world.”
My final message to all of you on that gainz train; gainz stop for nothing and no one, and neither should you.
