The bonding outside of the pool is paying off for CB Women’s Water Polo.

Fall typically means football season to  Christian Brothers students, but to others it also means water polo season. The Varsity Women’s Water Polo team has been exceptionally successful this season.

Water Polo is an intense sport that requires not only hard work and teamwork, but also the ability to tread water for long periods of time.

Katie Enos (’16), one of the hard working athletes on the team, is new to the sport, but has really been enjoying it.

“You do not need to be experienced to play” she says. “I am a junior and it is my very first year playing and I’ve learned a lot.”

The bond created between the Varsity girls is definitely agreed upon by the players, both new and familiar to the sport.

“My favorite part about water polo is the group of girls and the way we’ve bonded,” Katie says. “And of course, my very good coach Brian Peck.”

Brian Peck ’98 is not an unfamiliar face to CB. He has coached the swim team for the past two years but this year is adding the women’s water polo team to his coaching agenda.

“The approach we’ve taken is different,” he describes. “We’ve emphasized a team oriented game instead of competing with each other.”

Maliah Haroldson (’16) has played water polo since freshman year and has also noticed the changes to the team.

“The coaching style has changed,” the player discussed. “There’s definitely a lot more structure in the coaching style.”

This structure in the new coaching style has paid off.

“We’re doing a lot better as a team,” she continued. “There’s a lot more team chemistry this year, which is also good.”

The Lady Falcons have really come together this year as a team, and their recent victories prove how they’ve worked together. Defeating Casa Roble this past Wednesday 21-11 was a great victory and another one of their notable wins was the Sierra Shootout back in September, where they played five games and were victorious in all of them.

“I liked winning. It was a great feeling” Maliah says remembering the tournament. “That trophy we got was really the icing on the cake.”

And for the team, the true icing on the cake is the close relationships they’ve created with one another.
