For CB students, a local coffee shop can be a calming safe haven for studying.
Many Christian Brothers students complain about the workload and stress they are put under every night. But some have found that not going with the traditional studying habits like doing homework at home can be helpful.
Coffee shops in the Sacramento area offer a quiet hangout spot for work or study. But really, why is it worth the effort to go somewhere besides home?
Students like Fallon McMahon (’15) say leaving the house is necessary to get anything done.
“It is much easier to concentrate at a coffee shop,” says Fallon, who likes to go to Coffee Garden in Curtis Park. “I can’t really concentrate in my room because I have a TV.”
Many students like Fallon agree that doing work in one’s own home can lead to distractions,
“At home I can go on Netflix and just hang out and where as at a coffee shop I feel the need to be on task,” says Iris Fan (’15).
Home often leads to stressful nights and nosy parents. It’s cool to say you to hang at a local coffee shop, but what do students actually accomplish there??
Busy junior Shelby Rodich (’16) is always going to her local coffee shop Tupelo on Elvas Avenue.
“At home there are too many distractions,” she says. “I work better with caffeine and it is easier to focus there.”
The atmosphere of a working environment is also extremely helpful to stressed CB students. Some students even feel pressured to be busy and not get distracted when other people are studying and doing their work.
“At a coffee shop if I am distracted or not doing my work I feel like I’m being lazy when other people are being productive,” Iris, a usual customer at Temple Coffee in Fair Oaks, admits.
Adding to the focused environment several coffee shops, in the area have other things offer like music and refreshing drinks.
So now the decision is which coffee shop do you choose, because there are so many awesome places to choose from in the Sacramento area, the decision can be hard.
Many like Shelby choose it by location
“I got to Tupelo because it is down the street from my house so it is super easy.”
“My favorite is Temple because it is right by my house and I love the environment,” adds Iris.
Fallon’s favorite place is based on it’s unique qualities.
“I go to Coffee Garden because I think it is really cute and they have really good Italian sodas.”
Many students at CB can agree that in order to get the work done and enjoy oneself while doing it, going to the focused environment of a coffee shop is the answer. The Talon encourages you to check out your local coffee shop and see what it has to offer you.
