Our sister school in the Bay Area goes Hollywood.
From 1992 to 2004, the De La Salle Spartans from Concord, California did not lose a football game at the Varsity level. The Spartans went on an unprecedented 151 game winning streak, winning 12 straight section titles and their way into the history books for years to come.
Recently, Mandalay Pictures released the major motion picture When the Game Stands Tall, chronicling the real life story of De La Salle’s winning streak and its aftermath.
Coach Bob Ladouceur of De La Salle’s football squad has been highly regarded as one of the greatest prep coaches in history throughout his many years on the sidelines.
CB’s head football coach Mr. Dan Carmazzi described De La Salle’s success based on “his leadership and his vision — players buy into it”
Coach Carmazzi went on to describe their historic program as a “famed tradition.”
“They’re famous for their execution and discipline and all their coaches are on the same page and the same system,” he says. “They got it going.”
As for the content of the film, Lizzy Havey (’15) enjoyed the hard fought battle the Spartans had to go through to defeat powerhouse Long Beach Poly.
“The intensity of the game was breathtaking and the heart shown was the turning point for the team as they eventually came together to win the Section Title,” she says breathtakingly.
This movie hits Christian Brothers Campus especially hard as for De La Salle High School is our sister school in the Lasallian community.
“Having a special connection to this school makes it even more exciting and interesting to watch,” Lizzy says. “Leaving the theatre left me proud to be a Lasallian.”
