CB’s Literary Arts Journal prepares for publication.

The CB Literary Arts Journal is the perfect place for budding artists and writers to share their work. The annual publication features stories, poems, and photographs of artwork, all produced by creative CB students.

“I think the biggest benefit of the journal is that it gives the CB community confidence to put themselves out there,” says LAJ moderator Ms. Natalia Chiapa.

The journal offers a chance to publish work in a judgment-free forum.

“Kids can feel safe to be showcased in an amazing way,” enthuses Ms. Chiapa.

Kim Taketa (’14), who has been head editor of the journal since her junior year, loves the exposure to the art she experiences as a member of LAJ.

She enjoys “looking at the talent that everybody has, sometimes even the talent that’s not in class, like creative writing or art.” After all, even those who are not involved in creative classes have something special to contribute.

Spring is a busy time for the members of the Literary Arts Journal as they evaluate submissions and determine what will be included in the journal. Spring also means that’s Kim’s time as head editor is coming to a close.

As she has been involved since her sophomore year, “it’s very, very sad that I have to leave” Kim laments.

Most of the club’s active members are seniors, so Kim “[doesn’t] know who’s going to take my place.”

Still, the beloved journal will continue to succeed because it gives a chance of expression to all the artists on the CB campus.

If you enjoy writing or creating art, the Literary Arts Journal can be the perfect place to express yourself. Submit your work to Ms. Chiapa and be sure to pick up a copy of the journal at the La Salle Art Exhibit on May 15th.
