CB students start choosing jobs for this summer.
Summer is the perfect time to get work experience, earn a little cash, be out and about, and make some new friends.
However, even though it’s only springtime and summer seems far off on the horizon, CB students are already searching for employment as the demand for jobs is high.
The first step is finding out where we are even eligible to work as high school students.
“I want to get a job this summer but I need to research what I can [do] because I won’t be 18 until after summer’s over,” says Maddie Hamzy (’14).
Figuring out where to apply was easier for Sophie Lee (’14), the bright-headed senior who has dyed her hair red and purple.
“I’ve always wanted to work at Hot Topic,” says Sophie, “and with my hair being the way it is, I think I could fit in there.”
Hoping to work in the eclectic environment, Sophie enthuses, “I feel like it’s my crowd.”
Some people are choosing jobs for the benefits of being outdoors in the sunny summer weather.
In Maddy Meng (’14)‘s opinion, being a lifeguard is the perfect way to enjoy the season while earning some money.
“I love swimming,” says the bubbly senior, “and I want to get a tan!”
On the other hand, some job-seekers prefer to stay inside.
“I work for CPM,” says Dana Kimball (’14). “It’s mostly sitting in front of the computer all day.”
The job suits Dana perfectly.
“It pays fairly well, and I’m good with computers,” says the tech-savvy senior.
Finding a job that suits our skills and talents while paying well can be a tall order, so some Falcons are opting for volunteer work this summer.
“I’m volunteering with the Sacramento Zoo,” says LJ Johnson (‘15). As a counselor for the kids’ camp there, he will help lead activities and especially looks forward to an “overnight stay” in which he and the campers will “sleep out under the stars” and employees will “bring out the animals”.
LJ can’t wait to start. “I love animals, but I love kids even more,” he declares.
No matter what summer job you pick, as long as you stay true to yourself and your interests, it will be a rewarding and fun experience!
