The upcoming Falcons of the Class of 2018 take the first step in their CB careers.

It was a freezing morning on Saturday, January 18th, but as bright-eyed and nervous eighth graders flowed onto CB’s campus, their hearts were warm with excitement about their next four years at Christian Brothers.

It was time for the placement indicator, an exam that would determine which classes would best serve each student’s academic needs for their freshman year.

Due to changes in the placement indicator policies at Jesuit High School, eighth graders had to “make a decision much quicker”, says Admissions Director Mr. Kenny Kirrene ‘78.

Jesuit moved up the date of their placement indicator test six weeks, accelerating the  important decision process for students at our feeder schools.

Luckily, the incoming freshmen feel sure about CB and will form the largest class in the history of the school.  Enrollment numbers have continued to elevate in recent years, and Mr. Kirrene feels blessed and grateful to be part of the growing community.

The new families bring “new things and new ideas and new ways that keep [him] younger,” he says.

The admissions staff are not the only ones who enjoy welcoming the new faces to CB. Dedicated Lasallian Student Ambassadors donned their blue polo shirts the morning of the placement indicator and greeted the incoming freshmen with a smile, leading them where they needed to go.

Christian Contreras (‘14), who has been a Lasallian Student Ambassador since his sophomore year, says that the role “has been an honor because [he’s] been able to give back to [his] school community.”

Christian enjoys the leadership position and loves to help prospective families see why CB really is the place to be.

With such a large, diverse class entering our school, Christian and everybody in the CB community are excited for what the class of 2018 has in store.

“A lot of good athletes, artists, scholars — a lot of potential is coming to CB,” he says.
