Why don’t girls ask guys to homecoming? The Talon investigates.

Many ladies are seen complaining about not having a date to Homecoming — but is this on them? The Talon spoke to upper division students and came to find that most girls will not say yes to a guy who is not going the extra mile.

Maybe it’s the pride and satisfaction of carrying the poster and flowers around to show off to other ladies to show the way they got asked is superlative to other girls at Christian Brothers.

Upper division ladies are a little harder to please — only 5 of the 26 girls polled by the Talon said that they would agree to an informal way of being asked to homecoming. Lauren Devera (’15) says she would rather be asked than to be the proposer.

“I think girls are hesitant to go after the guy they want to ask because they just don’t want to seem like they’re thirsty,” she says.

But Mary Zannetti (’14) is shocked when we told her the numbers for girls who would be willing to ask guys to a school dance. The senior views girls asking guys as “totally normal”.

Kevin Stenvick’s (’15) reaction was the complete opposite as he was uncomfortable with the thought of a girl ever asking a guy to the dance. The junior describes the situation as a “masculine thing” and advises “don’t do it.” The junior advises ladies to wait it out to get asked by your significant other.

Do guys like to spend the extra dollar to get the girl to say yes? Matt Franzoia (’15) tells the Talon that he likes the creativity that goes into asking the girl to homecoming, but doesn’t think you have to spend a “hundred dollars” to do so.

This is the 21st century and women have never had this much power. It is strange that now in this day in age it is odd that the Christian Brother’s community isn’t ready for this big of a change yet.
