The CB volleyball team faced one of their biggest tests of the season at last week’s Holy Court showdown.

The post-Holy Bowl sadness everyone is feeling can go away right now, because an equally pivotal rivalry match occurred last week.

The Christian Brothers Lady Falcons took on the St. Francis Troubadours in what was sure to be one of the best area games this season.

Both the Falcons (#3 in the area by The Sacramento Bee) and the Troubadours (#2 by the Bee/4th in the state by MaxPreps) look to continue their early season success. This was a key match for both because they are jockeying for supremacy in the Sacramento area.

There is a lot riding on this game, and both teams are aware of the significance it presents — most notably bragging rights between the two schools.

“Both teams are really good this year,” says co-captain Nastassja Bowman (’15). “I don’t think there will be a better game than this all year before playoffs.”

The consensus from the team was that the Troubadours are loaded this year and to expect a great match.

The match did live up to the hype as well as the strong St. Francis did. Even though SF did win in straight sets, the entire game had a lot of energy and each set was highly contested and  a back and forth affair.

Though Jayme-Lee Bulda (’14), Ashlynn Fresques (’16), and Bowman all had good games, it was not enough to overcome the balanced Troubadour squad.

The faithful CB student section cheers on Jayme-Lee as she gets set to serve.

After the game Nastassja was not pleased end result, but was already looking forward to the next challenge.

“I did think we did some things well but we just need to look forward to our next match and take them one at a time,” the junior says. “This was a good challenge.”

The Lady Falcons will open up league play on Wednesday at home against highly ranked Oakmont.
