The iPad is a powerful educational device, but students must be careful in how they use it.

Spiderman’s uncle tells Peter Parker (Spiderman) that with all the new super powers he possesses, comes the responsibility to use those powers for the good of others.

Although we may not be climbing walls or defeating bad guys on our free time, we can still learn from this quote. Now the power I’m talking about is one that every member of our Christian Brothers community can relate to – a 10″ x 12″ box each one of us carries safely – usually in their back pack.

This power is your very own iPad.

With apps like Schoology,Keynote and Pages, our iPad becomes an essential tool to our learning. It allows 24/7 access to information that we can use to achieve a higher level of learning.

Just as the iPad can also be our key to success in school. It can soon become our Achilles heel. But just like Peter he had his uncle to help him, the CB community has the “R.U.P” (Responsible User Policy) to keep us on the right path.

R.U.P is located in the online student handbook. Use these acronyms to keep the policy in mind:

KIC – Keep it clean guys! — Keep your messages via Schoology or iMessage appropriate . While you’re on campus, your iPad or phone/electronic device is available for inspection by any teacher or staff member. It wouldn’t hurt to get in the habit of keeping your screens clean and smudge free either.

PAP – Public and Permanent. — We need to remember that posts, photos, and videos stay up forever and can be seen by everyone. Always make sure it is CB worthy.

RUP = KIC+PAP. A simple formula for living up to the responsibility part of Spiderman’s quote. Better yet, it is a great first step to becoming a true CB Tech Super Hero.
