Despite coming from a different religious background, one CB junior has thrived in our Lasallian environment.
Although Christian Brothers is a Catholic High School, the CB community welcomes students from all faiths.
Christian Brothers’ genuinely inclusive community is one of the reasons why this school has acquired such a diverse student body. Sikhs, Muslims, and Christian students are all welcome to call CB their academic home and a place where they can make friendships regardless of religious affiliation.
After hearing of Christian Brothers reputation as a community that embraces students of all faiths, Regan Bradley (’14) began to consider going to CB despite the fact that she’s a Baptist.
“I’ve been a Baptist for about ten years so far, and at first I was a little skeptical about going to a Catholic high school,” recalls Regan.
However, Regan was soon able to make friends at CB and has been able to learn a lot about Catholicism thanks to the excellent curriculum that the school offers. Although the denominations have their differences, the Baptist and Catholic Church contain many similarities as well.
“In the Catholic Church we have saints and in the Baptist religion we don’t,” explains Regan. “We focus mainly on God and just the Holy Trinity in general and how [the Trinity] should steer your life toward a good path.”
Thanks to the welcoming attitude of the CB community, Regan didn’t have too much difficult adjusting to the predominantly Catholic school.
“It wasn’t hard adjusting my religion to this school because there are still very similar beliefs between Catholicism and Baptists, and there are only a few differences so it wasn’t really hard for me to adjust,” says Regan.
One of Regan’s favorite things about attending Christian Brothers is attending the school liturgies. Liturgies give Regan the opportunity to learn more about the Catholic faith and discover even more similarities between the two denominations.
“I like to learn new things and the homilies explain how to better your life and this is the same thing that is preached at Baptist Mass,” says Regan.
There’s no doubt that CB students try to create an environment that is open to all types of people. This kind of environment allows friendships that would have otherwise been impossible, actually blossom forth within Christian Brothers.
“Here, people like you for you, and not based on your race, religion, culture, or sexual orientation,” Regan proudly states. “I have multiple friends and they don’t care what religion I am, as long as I’m just myself.”
