A CB freshman has found success in the world of pageantry.
Freshman Mackenzie Starnes (’16) holds one of the most impressive skills at Christian Brothers. Just recently the freshman took first place in the Miss Outstanding Teen Sacramento competition.
But success did not come overnight for CB’s young talent. Starnes has been preparing for her onslaught of competitions for several months, and has fine tuned her skills and performances.
“I had to practice pretty regularly every week since November,” Miss Teen Sacramento stated.
Starnes completed many components of the competition which displayed a versatility and maturity not held by many adolescents.
The Miss Outstanding Teen Competition consisted of five main segments: fitness, talent, evening gown, on stage questioning and most importantly, an individual interview.
For her talent section Mackenzie put on an impressive violin performance of Vivaldi. She also received a special award for retaining a 4.0 GPA.
The young pageant star believes her time at CB has prepared her well for her competitions.
“Mr. Maslen helped me with my violin piece, and all of my teachers have pushed me toward that 4.0 mark,” she said appreciatively.
Starnes will continue looking towards Brothers’ staff and community for assistance as she moves on in her competitions.

Next up on Mackenzie’s list is the Miss Teen California Competition in June. With her strong performance in the past, Mackenzie has a strong chance of taking victory at the statewide level too.
If she wins this competition, then CB’s pageant queen will prepare for her highest goals of victory in the Miss Teen U.S.A Competition.
However, the result of these competitions have no chance of squashing Mackenzie’s future in competition.
“I have had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends. I will definitely try to do this again in the future” she happily reported.
Sacramento’s finest teen by vote has gained valuable experience in her time competing for the title, and looks to develop her skills as moves into the future.
However, with or without title Mackenzie, is undoubtedly a positive influence on the Christian Brothers and Sacramento communities.
If you see Mackenzie in the halls be sure to congratulate her, wish her luck, and catch a glance of her championship smile.
