With the advancement of digital technology, what will become of the lockers at Christian Brothers?

In today’s Christian Brothers world, lockers are seen as a necessity and are heavily relied upon by many students. Lockers are often filled to the brim with various books, notebooks, and other school supplies.

“I have a bunch of stuff in my locker, books, my lunch, sports gear, and other and notebooks,” says Daniel Rozewski (’14).

However, the Christian Brothers community has been steadily increasing its usage of technology; even going so far as to fully implement iPads within the classroom. With the iPads fulfilling the role of both textbook and notebook, many people have begun wondering whether lockers will become obsolete.

“There’s a possibility that lockers won’t be needed at all because you’re gonna have notes you can take on your iPad and you have your books on your iPad , so there’s the possibility that you might not need a locker at all,” Daniel says.

“Kids will always want to have a place to put their things, but the stuffed locker with 27 books in it, and four coats, and a pair of shoes might change,” answers Mr. Steve Barsanti, CB’s Director of Facilities. “This could happen where kids are carrying something that’s no bigger than a notebook and they’ll be able to travel a little easier.”

Mr. Barsanti also talks about the possibility of allowing students to have the choice of having a locker. Saying,” I’m glad we still have [lockers], but I notice how locker use would change over time.”

In addition to the questionable usefulness of lockers, the Christian Brothers campus itself will also be seeing some dramatic changes. Perhaps the most startling change to the campus will be the construction of the new theater currently being overseen by Mr. Barsanti.

“I’ve seen enough of the plans for the theatre and man I just think people are going to be blown away with how good it is,” say Mr. Barsanti, with obvious pride in his voice.

With C.B. becoming more and more technologically advanced, lockers may very well be a thing of the past. Few people need a locker to store multiple books and notebooks when everything is contained within a single iPad.
