Meet a young Falcon who plays basketball with the big girls.

This week’s Falcon of the Week is one sassy sophomore who accomplished an outstanding feat this week in her high school basketball career.

Kira McKechnie (’15) is athletic, has a great sense of humor, and is overall an outgoing high school student. Outside of school Kira loves spending time with her family and hanging out with friends.

As a 15 year old Christian Brothers sophomore Kira plays two varsity sports and enjoys playing at the highest level.

“I love the games! I love the intensity and the competition of being able to compete to be the best out there!” she says.

Christian Brothers’ women’s varsity basketball team currently holds a record of 2-2 and are a well bonded team that should produce many more wins this season.

“We should get pretty far,” the sophomore says. “We have a lot of skill on the team and once we get our kinks worked out we will be even better than we are now.”

This past week the Lady Falcons participated in the Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament. Unfortunately they were unable to win the championship game, but played very well and came in second place.

Kira gave a stellar performance as she scored 30 points in the championship game against St. Mary’s of Stockton, earning her way onto the All-Tournament Team. Kira says this has been one proudest basketball achievements.

Scoring 30 points against a top ranked team and then being named to the All-Tournament Team as a sophomore in her first varsity tournament is no small accomplishment. However, these honors come after plenty of hard work — Kira spends nearly ten hours a week practicing with the team.

Kira is an exceptional example for a scholar athlete. She has done an amazing job of representing her school and always giving her best. We expect many great things of Kira  and hope she has a very affluent future.
