The hardwood tradition that has all-school lunches buzzing.
“Mr. Diaz and I have been supervising intramural basketball here for eight years now,” says religion teacher, Mr. Rene Cardenas. “He asked me to help him bring it back from when he played it here.”
Mr. Armando Diaz (’94) and Mr. Cardenas are two teachers that love to commission the intramural basketball league here at Christian Brothers. What’s more impressive is how much the students embrace it.
“This is my fourth year playing intramural!”
This comes from senior Hassan Romieh (’13) who is playing on Team Caillou alongside Shawn Grewal (’13), Trent Thompson (’13), and Jesse Correia (’13).
Hassan and his pals are 2-0 on their quest to win the intramural basketball league championship this year.
“The goal is to go undefeated and win the championship,” he exclaims.
Team Caillou isn’t the only undefeated squad so far. Heavily favored team Skillz that Killz are 2-0 lead by Chris Watkins (’13), Angel Alvarado (’13), Cory Lutz (’13), and Jacob Guzman (’16).
Intramural basketball is a great way to meet friends, stay in shape, and have friendly competition at school. The sport has really become a tradition at CB in which kids who don’t play basketball for the school team. can still play the team sport. Although it gets competitive, everyone has a great time.
“What I get most out of intramural is all of the smiles and joy it brings to all the kids,” explains Mr. Cardenas.
Make sure to come out and watch intramural basketball during Thursday’s all school lunch.
