Pinning Down Another State Title

Mallory Velte was a state champion wrestler last year. Can we expect the same from her this season?

Mallory Velte’s (’13) wrestling career has been growing since she was a freshman, peaking last year when she skyrocketed to a state championship in the 132 lb. division. But she accomplished many other personal achievements as a wrestler this past year.

“Last season I got 2nd in sections, 1st in state, was 2-2 in varsity boys, and 6th in nationals” she says.

Since Mallory had such a successful season last year, there are many expectations for this year’s season. Her goals are to push herself to keep getting better.

“My goal this season would definitely be to win state again and place at least top three in nationals” the seniors says.

In order to reach these expectations she has set for herself, Mallory must work hard and keep her eye on the prize. She will need to stay focused on her wrestling strategies this season.

“My main strategy is to pace myself so I do not get burnt out and also to keep wrestling fun,” she adds.

Not only is wrestling one of Mallory’s best talents, it is one of her biggest passions. When she wrestles she feels in her comfort zone, which is one the reasons why she wants to continue to wrestle in college. She is still talking to colleges and this season will impact her decision greatly.

“I have been talking to a few different colleges and definitely want a scholarship,” she says. “I have a full ride offer to Missouri Baptist University already.”
