The athletic student council has been making executive sports decisions for years at Christian brothers.
The Athletic Student Council is a group of students representing all sports teams at Christian Brothers. This council is led by Mr. Dan Carmazzi ’71 and Mrs. Jill Bennett while the rest of the council is made up of one student from each sport. Grades, sport participation, as well as a recommendation from a coach play a part in this process of selecting council members.
“My coach recommended me probably because I am dedicated to football and I show leadership outside as well as on the field,” said athletic student council member and Varsity football player Vinnie Johnson (’13). “I know that the athletic directors had to look over my grades and career in football so far to approve me.”
This council meets once a month on the first Thursday of that month to discuss any sports related issues at Christian Brothers. At these meetings many different things are discussed from getting new uniforms for a certain team to asking for volunteers for a golf tournament.
“On issue I remember discussing was the condition of certain teams uniforms. I know volleyball mentioned that their freshman girls uniforms did not even match theirs,” Vinnie said. “In this council we can ask for money from the school to handle these issues and make a change”
Since there is a member from each sports team on this council, all sports are represented to voice their opinions and concerns.
Not only does this council handle the issues of different teams on campus but they volunteer to work different sporting events and other events, including the recent Coaches Hall of Fame dinner.. At these events the students wear matching gray athletic student council polos and act as representatives of Christian Brothers to answer any questions or concerns any guests may have.
The athletic student council will handle all problems sports related, so if their are any questions or concerns you know who to go to, CB!
