Freshmen and Sophomores love to get groovy at CB, Jesuit and St. Francis open dances.
The open dances are typically hosted by one of the three neighboring Catholic high schools: Christian Brothers, St. Francis and Jesuit. These three high schools work in unison to create a fun and safe environment for students. The reason we have these dances is to allow underclassmen, freshman and sophomores to dance together while keeping the crowd small and controllable.
The freshman and sophomore student council members collaborate together to come up with the best theme and decorations for the dance their school will be hosting. In order for students not to lose their tickets, student council sells bracelets the week before the dance. Student Council also works together to decorate for the dance and clean up once it is over.
The Catholic High schools all decide on the same dress code, dance guidelines, and time for the dances to keep it simple for the students and the schools.
CB tries to differ from the other schools, though, by hiring the famous DJ Hightop, stationing the dances outside, and designing and ordering bracelets for students to take home as a memoir.
“In general, we have the best dance — that is not just my opinion — the students hear it from the guests that attend from all the schools,” says Student Council Coordinator Mrs. Rose Ann Holmes.
Students truly appreciate the hard work that goes into these dances.
“I like going to the dances because the themes are fun and I like to dance!” says George Matthews (’15).
The dances are moderated by eight Student Council Members, mostly seniors, and 12 adult prefects in order to keep the dancing clean and appropriate. The dances are funded by the tickets sold, so the more students that attend, the better memories made!
