Find out what the new (and old) favorite lunch trends are.

As soon as the lunch bell rings, the line in the cafeteria is almost out the door and brown paper bags are pulled out of lockers as students scramble to get to their favorite tables.

A variety of lunch items cover the tables shared with friends. The edible assortments made the Talon wonder: what’s in your lunch?

While traditional lunchboxes are less common for high schoolers, some students, like senior Morgan Gable (’13), stay green by using the Environmental Club’s reusable cloth bags. The popular trend, however, is that of the brown paper sack.

Packed by loving mothers, students like Susan Sutton (’13) eat “peanut butter and jelly every single day,” along with a pre-sliced apple and a soft cookie for dessert.

“My mom makes my lunches so they are delicious –like homemade quesadillas,” grins senior Amanda Aljishi (’13).

For parents with less time on their hands, or students who make their own lunches, pre-made meals are a convenient option. We all remember “Lunchables” from our childhood.

“Lunchables are better than every lunch!” declares CB’s Eric Graham (’13).

Ritz crackers and cheese squares, child-sized pizzas, nacho chips, and numerous other meal options are packaged and sold in grocery stores across America. The healthy (or not-so-healthy) lunches are popular among children of all ages.

While the nostalgia of childhood makes teenagers wish for tiny boxed lunches that “are [kinda] gross” (Bianca Ramos ’13), most students settle on cafeteria food.

The only problem now is the rising price of café food. Busy senior Cydney Chilimidos (’13) says, “I don’t always eat lunch [at school] because it’s too expensive but I’m too lazy to make my own lunch.”

And now we can guess why Lunchables were invented.
