Christian Brothers students team up with Mr. Hunley to support the less fortunate in the run to feed the hungry.
The run to feed the hungry is an annual Thanksgiving run held at Sacramento State and put on by the Sacramento Food Bank as a fundraiser for the less fortunate. Many people in the Sacramento community comes out to participate in this charitable run.
“I have been told this is one of the largest Thanksgiving runs in the United States,” says Mr. Jake Hunley ‘96. “Last year there were about 28,000 people who decided to participate in the run.”
To help out with this cause ,Mr. Hunley organizes a team of Christian Brothers students to do this run to help others and show support.
“I run in the event aside from organizing the team, taking care of registration, and distributing the packets as well as racing materials,” the CB soccer coach said of the 5K and 10K race.
This run is a fun way to bring the whole Sacramento community together to support the homeless and less fortunate. Runners show up wearing anything from professional running gear to playful costumes.
Mr. Hunley has participated in the run for ten years and organized Christian Brothers team for six.
“I think it is a great event and is fun, I enjoyed running it before I worked at CB and I enjoy it even more now,” he says. “I love that we can show our presence and support to a cause by gathering some students to run.”.
“It is a great charitable event and a fun experience to run with at least 25,000 other people”.
The fundraiser does not require participants to run, but rather to have fun and be supportive.
The Christian Brothers team will meet at the VIP booth for complimentary drinks and food. Sign-ups to join the team and run are available on the Run to Feed the Hungry website or you can see Mr. Hunley for more information. Everyone should go sign up and support our Sacramento community.
