Last Friday, CB’s video classes headed to the Crest Theatre for the 16th annual North American All Youth Film and Education Day.

Last Friday the Christian Brothers’ KBFT and Video 3 classes went to the beautiful Crest Theatre in downtown Sacramento to spend a day of watching short films. Every film shown on the big-screen was student directed, produced, and written.

Every year, the Tower of Youth, a Sacramento area non-profit that promotes digital literacy, receives thousands of entries that are judged by a committee of students that pick the best ones to show.

“We were able to learn about what the Tower of Youth regards as excellence and can now transfer this into our own films,” said Stephen Sanchez (’13).

CB’s Video 2 and Video 3 classes will be entering their own short films in the the Tower of Youth competition this Spring.

“Our Annual Film Day is a jewel bringing the best youth voices, insights, energy and artistry to prove ‘Youth are the Solution'” said William Bronston, CEO of Tower of Youth.

Not only did our media students watch extraordinary films, but they heard empowering and inspirational talks by Susan Cabral-Ebert, a Hollywood makeup artist, and Ronald Chase, director of the San Francisco Film Workshpp.

“I enjoyed both talks but Mr. Chase’s really stood out for me” said Justin Cappello (’13) “[He] had an interesting presentation on how to produce audience entertaining material.”

At the end of the day, each student took away a different piece from the days informative presentations and films that will help the CB video students when they submit their films in the Spring.
