Meet the technologically-savvy senior who is putting a twist on what it means to be a “gamer.”

Farmville. Words with Friends. Kibbles the Cat.

Most people have heard of the first two games. These popular pastimes are played via Facebook and iPhones across the nation. But the third one is fairly new to the gaming scene.

The new Facebook game “Kibbles the Cat” was created and published by Christian Brothers’ own Anthony Colvard (’13).

The creative senior used a program similar to Java to program his own computer game.

“All my graphics and all of my codes are original,” says Anthony, who created the final product in about one week. The next step was finding somewhere to publish it.

Facebook, a popular social networking site, has a free program called “Developer,” which converts the game into an application and publishes it on the site for anyone to play. Anthony used the program to launch his game.

Although it is still waiting to be discovered by more fans, “Kibbles the Cat” is a fun game that turns anyone who comes across it into an addict. “Kibbles” is a cat that chases mice while avoiding traps in the road, such as dogs.

Anthony has enjoyed playing games his entire life.

“I’ve always kind of been a nerdy guy,” says the senior, “I find the challenge of making a bunch of different aspects in programs work together very fulfilling.”

When asked if he plans on becoming a computer programmer in the future Anthony says, “I do not. Programming is a hobby that brings me joy and I don’t want to ruin that or sour my taste for it. [Besides], I would rather not sit in front of a computer all day for the rest of my life.”

For now, the technologically-savvy senior is perfecting his skills in CB’s AP Computer Science class.

“Just because I make video games, doesn’t mean I play them all day long. I’m a programmer, not a super nerd. There is a difference –believe it or not.”
