CB’s new theatre director brings his big city skills to our campus.

Ever since he roamed the halls at Jesuit High School, Christian Brothers Theatre Director Mr. Connor Mickiewicz knew he was destined for the stage.

“By my senior year of high school, I was certain I wanted a career in the arts”

Mr. Mickiewicz’s interest in theatre sparked when his “older sister [became] involved with a local theatre group.” He started hanging out with her thespian friends and that soon turned into a love of theatre arts.

After graduating from Jesuit, the young actor was off to the Big Apple and the prestigious New York University.

While in New York, Mr. Mickiewicz found that “none of the shows or playhouses interested [him],” as he was drawn to “shows the general public rarely gets to see.”

Following his time at NYU, Mr. Mickiewicz packed his bags and moved to Sacramento to continue his love of musical theatre.

In 2009, he opened the doors to his theatre company, the New Helvetia. There he would go on to direct and occasionally act in most of the company’s shows.

One of the highlights of his career at the New Helvetia was being involved with It’s Only Life, featuring an award-winning songwriter John Bucchino.

Mr. Mickiewicz has also found his place in other Sacramento theatre companies such as Cap Stage and Asclepius Productions. He is now taking on a new role as director and theatre arts instructor at Christian Brothers.

“I remember how much fun I had doing shows in high school,” he said. “So I am looking forward to diving into this year’s material with the students.”

The first production that Mr. Mickiewicz and his students will tackle will be the musical Godspell, with shows slated for November. Keep reading CBTalon.com for full coverage of Godspell and other CB Theatre events.
