CB recognizes a sensational woman, teacher, friend and faculty member: Ms. Marian Shackel.
As a Lasallian school, we emphasize the importance of an inclusive community in which a quality education is highly regarded. We feel that it is imperative to recognize students and teachers every year who exhibit extraordinary qualities in our Christian Brothers community.
For the 2012-13 school year, the faculty and staff nominated and recognized the continuous efforts of Ms. Marian Shackel over her 13 years of employment here at CB by awarding her the honor of Lasallian Educator of the Year.
Ms. Shackel has not only taught rigorous Literature courses throughout her 13 years, but she has also assisted Mr. Thomas English for several years as Senior Class Co-Moderator.
“I am honored that my that my colleagues would hold me in such a high regard and I am humbled,” said the charismatic and popular teacher.
“She is a great teacher with a fun and happy attitude,” says senior Madeline Esquivel (’13), who is a member of Ms. Shackel’s AP Literature class. “Her constant jokes make literature interesting. Although, I have not had her previously, these first few weeks of school have allowed me to see many of the great aspects of Ms. Shackel and her class.”
Known for her humbleness and work ethic as much as she is for her teaching style and her famous baking skills, Ms. Shackel says that she receives and accepts the high recognition on behalf of all her colleagues because she knows that every single teacher truly lives and teaches the way our founder Saint John Baptist De La Salle envisioned.
If you happen to see Ms. Shackel around campus, make sure to congratulate her on her high honor and loyalty to the CB community.
