As college quickly approaches, some senior student-athletes at Christian Brothers feel the pressure to rise above the rest and earn an athletic scholarship as college scouts are on the prowl to find the most elite athletes to represent their university’s athletics.

In the midst of the fall sports season, CB football player Jalen Walker (’13) is working harder than ever to impress schools like Stanford, Cal, Georgia Tech, and Wisconsin — just a few that have expressed interest in him. His individual play this year will determine where he’s going to put the pads on next fall.

Through years of training and a large support system led by his mother and father, Jalen aims to play sports professionally someday after receiving his Masters at school where he will hopefully play football.

Fellow senior and golf standout Andrej Bevins (’13) already knows where he will be heading next fall. Andrej made the decision to attend New Mexico on a full ride scholarship after declining a full ride scholarship to the University of San Diego. He too hopes to play his sport professionally after college. The golfer cites his coach, Mr. Purdy, as well as his father and his teammates as his largest influences during his career at Christian Brothers.

Sport scholarships will be on many seniors’ minds for the next few months as college application deadlines approach. Some other seniors considering sports scholarships this year include Vinny Johnson (’13), Omari Gray (’13), Lucia Lopez (’13), and Hunter Rappleye (’13).

The pressure is on, but hopefully our Christian Brothers seniors can pull through and have fantastic individual playing seasons to impress the colleges. Keep checking out the Falcon Sports section of the Talon to find out where various Falcon student-athletes will be playing in college.
